NEW SONY PCS ALLOW A/V INTEGRATION.

NEW YORK-Sony's latest VAIO PCs have been designed to closely interact with digital audio/video products.

This type of integration, which Sony has dubbed "VAIO World," is an ongoing strategy, said Dr. Teruaki Aoki, president and chief operating officer of Sony Electronics.

"New product categories will come from the integration of audio-video and information technology," he said. "Digital convergence is essential to Sony's 21st century strategy."

The VAIO line was unveiled along with other products at a pre-Comdex event, here, last week.

With the launch of the VAIO Studio Digital PC, Sony is seeking to establish a starring role in the industry for its desktops -- a considerable task as Sony has been bested by computer makers...
