Sears Names Peterson VP, Gen. Mgr. of Online Unit.

Sears last week appointed Alice Peterson vice president and general manager of Sears Online, a newly created position. Peterson will be responsible for all of Sears' electronic commerce and interactive marketing efforts. She will report to Jane J. Thompson, president of Sears Direct.

"With Alice's leadership, we are positioned to maximize the potential that this important channel of distribution holds for Sears and develop ways to use the Internet as a meaningful way to connect with our customers," Thompson said.

Peterson was vice president and treasurer of Sears since 1993. She joined the company in 1989 as corporate director of finance and was names managing director in 1992, before being named treasurer.
