Kmart Joins Online Music Fray With New Retail Site.

Kmart Corp. said it started selling prerecorded music through a new Internet site, www.musicfavorites.com, which offers more than 100,000 compact disc and cassette titles in eight categories, including alternative music, jazz, rock and classical. The site was developed jointly with music distributor Handleman Co.

"Kmart's new music Web site builds on our goal to provide online shopping destinations that offer value and respond to the interests of the online shopper at Kmart.com," Marisha Geraghty, Kmart divisional vice president of Internet commerce, said in a statement.

Kmart, which operates 2,160 stores, is joining a field that has become packed with retailers offering music over the Internet.
