TOSHIBA POSTPONES NEW DVD PLAYER.(Brief Article)

WAYNE, N.J.- Lack of a consensus regarding how to copy-protect DVD players with progressive scan outputs has prompted Toshiba America Consumer Products to postpone the debut of its Platinum Standard SD7108 DVD player.
The unit -- first unveiled in May of this year -- incorporates what Toshiba calls ColorStream Pro technology. When working in conjunction with a DTV or DTV-ready set that incorporates ColorStream Pro inputs, the player will deliver a picture in 480p resolution, which is free of NTSC line structure and other artifacts common to DVD.
Matsushita Electric Corp. of America has displayed a DVD player that offers a progressive scan output, but the company has noted it will not release a player of this sort for sale until a copy-protection...
