SAN FRANCISCO-Williams-Sonoma is looking to the Internet for future growth and development.

The home specialty retailer has been relatively shy of electronic commerce in the past but now plans to redress the balance.

"This is an area of real development for us," said chairman and chief executive W. Howard Lester, addressing the annual meeting of shareholders last week. "We haven't been talking about it that much, but we're really focused in that direction. The company has a firm foundation and should be fully operational with e-commerce by the end of next year."
