RIDGEFIELD, NJ-Hoping to capitalize on its well-known brand name, Samsung America has created a home healthcare division. This month, the company unveiled its first healthcare products in the United States -- a line of blood pressure monitors.

"The category is basically wide open. There are four million blood pressure monitors sold and 50 million hypertensives," said Jack Pacheco, national sales manager for the new division, commenting on the potential for the category. Pacheco comes to Samsung after six years at Omron.

According to Pacheco, Samsung is an important hospital provider in Korea, and the company's interest in healthcare products is an offshoot. The line will be distributed under the trademark "Healthy Living." The products will be...
