NEW YORK-Residents of lower Manhattan afflicted by the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks have been getting free vacuum cleaners and air purifiers courtesy of the American Red Cross.
The organization set up a voucher program with Bed Bath & Beyond for high-filtration vacuum cleaners and arranged for direct shipments of air purifiers, said a resident who benefited from the program. It's one of numerous projects the Red Cross has undertaken through temporary disaster offices in these neighborhoods.
