RUGS ARE TURNING OVER A NEW LEAF.(new styles from United Weavers of America, Costikyan Carpets)(Brief Article)

HFN: The Weekly Newspaper for the Home Furnishing Network, January, 2002 by Honores, Crystal

NEW YORK-The Tommy Bahama look that was the buzz of last summer's market has evolved from realistic depictions of palm trees into a more abstract and simple form.

This January, leaf motifs, especially the elongated tropical type, dominate transitional styles. Bippinate, one of eight new styles from the Frank Lloyd Wright Collection by Costikyan Carpets, features oversize leaves in mocha and ivory.

Leaves take on a vivid color palette in Floral Passion from United Weavers of America's new Opulence collection of machine-woven, heat-set olefin rugs. Retailing for $299 for a 6-by-9, the collection's 30 new designs have up to 57 shades per rug.
