NEW YORK-Beneath its guise as an off-price apparel retailer, TJX Cos. has emerged as a home furnishings Goliath. The company's home sales totaled an estimated $2.3 billion in the United States alone in fiscal 2001, representing an increase of 30 percent during a three-year period and placing it ahead of Linens 'n Things, Kohl's and ShopKo.

With more than 1,400 T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods and A.J. Wright stores in the United States, each of which carry home products, TJX Cos. is clearly a force to be reckoned with.
