NEW YORK-Macy's East hopes it is cooking up another miracle on 34th Street.

The retailer capped off a $200 million renovation of its fabled Herald Square flagship here with a bold facelift of the home department that spotlights exclusive, theme-driven assortments and a pruned, whittled-down mix. The home revamp also marks a move away from aggressive promotional merchandising statements -- a longtime staple at the chain.

The housewares Cellar, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, has undergone perhaps the most dramatic changes, replacing massed-out product displays with trend-right merchandising presentations reminiscent of a specialty chain.

The overhaul also unveils more modern tabletop and furniture departments.
