Since Kmart filed for bankruptcy protection just over one year ago, the retailer's docket at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Illinois in Chicago has swelled enormously.

Because the case is one of the largest in the retail industry, and one of the largest bankruptcies ever, there are more than 8,200 files in the docket to date. The docket entries range from the relevant (such as a motion to reject leases) to the arcane (such as change-of-address form).

The court papers not only reflect the complexities of the Chapter 11 case, but also the impact the bankruptcy has on suppliers, municipalities and the public. The filings also show the immense paperwork required during court proceedings.
