REDMOND, Wash.-Among its plans for the holidays, Nintendo of America is counting on its two gaming options being better than one.
Thanks in large part to a major price reduction, the video game console and software manufacturer said its GameCube grabbed the top spot in sales for home units a few weeks into the season -- ahead of Sony Corp.'s PlayStation 2 and Microsoft Corp.'s XBox, according to market-share data compiled at retail. Among all consoles, the GameCube only trails Nintendo's own portable Game Boy Advance, which continues to rule the handheld game arena, the company told HFN.
