A Penney for your thoughts, board members at J.C. Penney Inc. What exactly where you thinking?
Mike Ullman's appointment as the new CEO at Penney was certainly a bit of a bombshell when it was announced some 10 days ago. Let me count the ways:
1 Nobody really expected an announcement quite so quickly, even though the current holder of the job, Allen Questrom, had announced last spring he was getting ready to move on. Still, the timetable was surprising.
2 Most everybody thought Ullman was already checked out and that even though he was only 57, he was basically done with these kinds of high-power, high-profile positions, maybe because of health issues, maybe because of other issues.
