As anyone associated with the bridal industry -- retailers, vendors, bridal magazine editors -- knows, the bridal registry has gone far beyond china, silverware and fine linens. At the same time, the current wave of the betrothed may already own the basics, such as cookware and towels, and is moving on to digital cameras and recliners.

Not surprisingly, smart retailers have modified their registries to accommodate the changing bridal business. Non-traditional retailers such as Amazon and Home Depot have introduced bridal registries, while traditional players such as department stores increase their service offerings. A couple of notable retailers, Kmart and IKEA, have not jumped on the bridal registry bandwagon. Yet.
