CHICAGO-Continuing a trend from last year, suppliers at the International Home & Housewares Show are mixing materials in new kitchen tools and gadgets, including using wood and iron in pantryware and silicone and bamboo in utensils.

Also getting progressively smarter are food scales, which can now tally up calories and carbohydrates for dieters as well as track the glycemic index of various foods. In keeping with the health trend, manufacturers are developing a water-hydration category for diligent exercisers. The tea category continues to grow with new introductions from elegant teapots to accessories like tea cozies and tea balls.
