THE CONSUMER CONFIDENCE LEVEL for June, based on a monthly survey of 5,000 households, reached 105.8, nearly three points higher than in May and fully three points above the level recorded during the same month last year, as reported by The Conference Board last week. This represents the highest level in the past three years. Overall, more consumers said that current conditions are better than they were the previous month, and more are looking forward to continued economic improvement. In terms of buying plans, however, the mood of consumers was mixed. Fewer than last month expected to purchase refrigerators, washing machines, TV sets, vacuum cleaners and carpeting over the next half year.
