NEW YORK-Research conducted by New Horizons Marketing Inc. for Carpet One estimates the total floor covering industry will grow at a compounded rate of 4.3 percent over the 2004 to 2009 period. The company said the more modest estimated growth rates are due to the influence of higher oil prices, higher interest rates and lower corporate earnings expectations.
It was also noted that the residential market continues to outpace the commercial market in terms of growth, but at a lower overall growth rate than for the 2002 to 2004 period.
The compound annual growth rate for carpets and rugs is expected to continue to grow with the rate of inflation, but will be outpaced by sales of wood products, ceramics and laminates.
