GENERAL ELECTRIC'S Consumer & Industrial business, which includes major appliances and lighting, reported a $196 million profit for the third quarter ended Sept. 30, compared with $163 million for the year-ago period. Earnings for the division were partly driven by $3.52 billion in sales, compared with $3.42 billion for the same period last year. For the year to date, profits rose 14 percent to $588 million, from $516 million, and sales rose 3 percent to $10.36 billion, from $10.01 billion. A corporate statement attributed some of its success to "continued focus and investment in award-winning high-end consumer products," naming the Profile SmartDispense dishwasher, its freestanding range with double ovens and its Monogram Walk-In Wine Vault...
