MATSUSHITA'S APPLIANCE SALES BOOST Q1 NUMBERS.

OSAKA, Japan-Gains in home appliance sales helped to lift the bottom and top line at Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd. for the recently completed first quarter.

Matsushita, best known for its Panasonic brand of appliances and electronics, logged a 2 percent increase in home appliance sales to roughly $2.70 billion for the first quarter ended June 30 from $2.65 billion for the same period last year. Sales gains in refrigerators and washing machines offset room air weakness associated with the cold start of summer in Europe and China, the company stated in a release.
