Under the radar: Sky Financial Group's aggressive acquisition strategy is paying off in Northeast Ohio.(The Financial Scene)

Driving along interstates 77 or 480, you'll spot billboards for Key, National City, or Charter One touting no-fee checking accounts or pitching home equity lines of credit.

You won't see the Sky Bank logo on many billboards, though, but chances are you've noticed the banks popping up in your neighborhood.

"We don't carpet the area on an advertising basis," says Dick Hollington III, regional president of Sky's Creater Cleveland Region, which includes Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, northern Summit, and northern Portage counties. "But we know our target market."
