Skin cancer education for patients

Internal Medicine News, August 1, 2008

The Skin Cancer Foundation offers information to help patients recognize skin cancer.

A brochure titled "The ABCDEs of Melanoma" is now available in both English and Spanish. The foldout helps to identify the most important differences between common moles and melanomas: Asymmetry, Border irregularity, Color variations, and large Diameter and Evolving. To order copies, contact the foundation at 800-754-6490.

Illustrated instructions showing how to perform monthly skin self-examinations are available at the foundation's Web site (www.skincancer.org/early-detection/self-examination.html). The rest of the foundation's site includes information on the various types of skin cancer and offers tips for prevention.
