Motorola picks up operations award.(High Honors)

Enterprise supply management vendor Emptoris recently congratulated Motorola for winning the 2004 Franz. Edelman Award for achievement in operations research and the management sciences. Motorola's entry--Reinventing the Supplier Negotiation Process at Motorola-involved its streamlined supplier management process, which leverages Emptoris' internet negotiation platform.
Motorola implemented a vendor management system that supports the company's sourcing process and enables bidding, online negotiations, and scenario-based optimization analysis. The system--which manages $17 billion in purchases among 1,200 suppliers worldwide--achieved $600 million in cost savings over 18 months.
