Next on the horizon: the bill of process.(Product Life-Cycle Management)

Some call it digital manufacturing; others call it manufacturing process management (MPM). Whatever the label, it's a software niche getting more attention given UGS's January deal to buy MPM vendor Tecnomatix Technologies. UGS--known for its product life-cycle management (PLM) software--sees MPM as an important leg of a PLM strategy.

But what exactly is MPM, who uses it, and what can it do for an enterprise?
