ERP vendors scramble to sign up midmarket VARs.(MIDSIZE ENTERPRISE MARKET)

The shakeup in the ERP midmarket is causing a ripple effect among value-added resellers, or VARs. This means ERP vendors are putting more attention on recruiting and retaining VARs, which analysts say should benefit end users by making VARs more effective. The small to midsize business (SMB) segment of the ERP market changed rapidly when Microsoft bought Great Plains in 2001 and formed Microsoft Business Solutions (MBS).
ERP vendors once focused on larger enterprises--such as SAP and Oracle--also have revamped their SMB approaches by launching product lines sold through VAR channels.
