Manufacturers finding deals on eBay.(ONLINE SOURCING)

With 147 million registered users worldwide, online auction site eBay claims to be the most popular shopping destination on the Internet. It also is becoming a popular place for small and midsize manufacturers to buy and sell industrial equipment. More than $1.4 billion worth of goods changed hands on eBay's Business and Industrial site in the first quarter of 2005 alone, according to Ben Hanna, an eBay senior manager.
On an average day, Hanna adds, eBay closes auctions on 1,000 test equipment items, 550 items of industrial automation and robotics equipment, and 250 items of manufacturing and metalworking machinery. Jay Triplett, president of Monett Metals, a steel foundry based in Monett, Mo., says using eBay may yield savings of 30 percent or more....
