Design vendor harnesses Microsoft portal technology for versatile, low-cost PLM solution.(COLLABORATIVE PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT)

Microsoft doesn't sell product lifecycle management (PLM) applications, but it could increase its presence in the PLM space as more users discover the highly versatile--and cost-effective-solutions other vendors are building on top of Microsoft's SharePoint platform. Among the vendors using SharePoint as the basis for a solution is Actify, which bills itself as a supplier of digital design communications software.

"We offer a solution that's easy to adopt for even the small and medium-size business," says Randy Ochs, Actify's president and CEO. "And we aren't trying to drag a heavier, more expensive PLM solution behind it."
