2004 motorcycle sales climb 4.7%.(Retail Sales Report)

Motorcycle sales in 2004 continued strong with sales for the 12 months reaching 965399 units, according to figures compiled by the Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC). That's an increase of 4.7% over the same period in 2003. Total figures include sales of 48,445 scooters last year and 46,680 scooters in 2003.

The highway segment continued to be the largest segment, posting sales of 604,396 units for the year, up 7.6% over 2003.

Off-highway sales were off 1.5% for the year, slipping to 289,650 units from a total of 294,015 units in 2003.

ATVs sales were up only 1.7% for the year at 812,970 units compared to 799,353 units in 2003. December 2004 sales were 101,828, up only 779 units over the same month in 2003.
