The government's new Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC) is open for business, eight months after the shutdown of smaller independent federal clearinghouses on early childhood education and other issues.

The digital, centralized ERIC library began Sept. 1, combining 16 prior clearinghouses that had operated across the country at various colleges and universities. In addition to early education, separate ERIC clearinghouses covered topics such as literacy, education administration and higher education.
