For the fifth straight year, the Toyota Camry has topped the list of stolen cars, according to CCC Information Services, in Chicago Ill. In 2001, however, the 1991 model Camry wrested the No. 1 slot from the 1989 model, which had held the dubious top honor for the previous four years. The highest theft rate in the contiguous states is held by Michigan, where local thieves demonstrate a preference for domestic cars.

Toyota and Honda models comprised 16 of the top 20 most-stolen vehicles, with the lone domestic entry in the top 10 being the 1994 Chevrolet C1500 4X2 truck.
