Supreme court reverses punitive damages against ford. (Capitol Beat).

Citing the recent decision in State Farm v. Campbell, the U.S. Supreme Court has vacated a $290 million product liability punitive damage award in Ford Motor Company v. Romo. That figure had been awarded by a California court to the survivors of a 1993 car accident in which the driver overturned his 1978 Ford Bronco. The Bronco rolled over several times, crushing the roof and killing three of the six occupants. The driver of the Bronco and the driver of another vehicle were found to share partial fault for the accident. The survivors brought suit, charging that the Bronco's roof should have been stronger.
