Analysts are beginning to approach Australian banking stocks with some wariness. Bank stocks have been solid investments, but the housing market is cooling and competition in the industry is increasing. Merrill Lynch has an "underweight" view and JP Morgan and Deutsche Bank have "negative" ones. Still, ABN AMRO believes banking stocks are more attractive than industrial ones in the short term. Wilson HTM also says bank valuations have been more expensive in the past.
