May 31, 2006 (B&T Weekly - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Marketers are advised not to ignore teenagers' enthusiasm for virtual communities. Many teenagers use online characters, or avatars, to gain virtual existence in a virtual community. The Habbo Hotel model of virtual community began in Finland in 2000. It was launched in Australia in November 2004, and it started featuring advertising in May 2005. Some well known companies advertise on the site, including Optus, Buena Vista Films, Nintendo, Nike, K Mart, L'Oreal, DMG Radio, Adidas and 20th Century Fox. ...
