Digital wallet still a dream, but Amex starts a Blue with smart card.
Australasian Business Intelligence, July, 2001
Jul 28, 2001 (The Australian Financial Review
ABIX via COMTEX) -- American Express released the Blue card in Australia during late July 2001. Few Australian EFTPOS machines are capable of reading the smart chip embedded in the card, although ANZ is moving to upgrade its terminals. American Express has retained the normal magnetic strip on the Blue card, and the cashless society is not likely to begin until banks like the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) adopt the technology.
