Gold costs soar in Tanami flood.
Australasian Business Intelligence, August, 2001
Aug 3, 2001 (Centralian Advocate
ABIX via COMTEX) -- Floods in the Tanami Desert in March 2001 sharply increased the cost of producing gold. Normandy NFM reported on 2 August 2001 production costs at the Granites mine increased by 23 per cent in March and June. Contributing factors included the closure of the Tanami Road, standing-down of mining contractors, air freight, and fuel haulage. The Northern Territory Government has earmarked $100,000 for a study on infrastructure needs in the Tanami region.
