IIA adds support to Foxtel.
Australasian Business Intelligence, August, 2001
Aug 21, 2001 (The West Australian
ABIX via COMTEX) -- An effort is being made to ensure Australians get digital broadband access as quickly as possible. The Australian Government has suggested an "access holiday" for the Foxtel cable, under which there would be no free access to the cable by competitors for a specified period. The Internet Industry Association says it is prepared to support the idea, which would guarantee Foxtel a commercial return from its investment, as long as some conditions are met. The Australian Government is looking for ways to encourage the pay television network to spend $A500m upgrading its network to digital.
