ATO ruling clarifies deductibility for establishing commercial web sites.
Australasian Business Intelligence, August, 2001
Aug 12, 2001 (Sunday Times
ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has issued a ruling on the tax deductibility of a business establishing a website. Some businesspeople have argued that the full expenditure equates to advertising expenditure, and should be tax deductible in full in the year the expense was incurred. Ruling TR2001/6 shows that, according to the ATO, this is not the case. The Taxation Commissioner splits website expenditure into three categories to take in the computer hardware, software and content. The split-up is complex and business is advised to obtain a copy of the ruling.
