ABIX via COMTEX) -- The competition regulator has been criticised because of its plans to deregulate wholesale local call pricing. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has made a "draft" decision to stop controlling local call pricing in the CBDs of major Australian cities. Telecommunications expert, Paul Budde, said that he was disappointed with the proposed change as competition in CBD was limited. According to George Hazim, Primus Telecommunications spokesperson, the proposal was a "farce". Cable & Wireless Optus has also expressed its concern. An AAPT spokesperson said the market would still be monitored by the commission even if the proposal was implemented.
