Alston calls for mediation on Telstra phone network charges.

ABIX via COMTEX) -- A long-running dispute among competitors in Australia's telecommunications industry is continuing. Telstra, AAPT and Primus are at odds on the price Telstra can charge competitors over access to its public switched telephone network. Telstra's management has lodged an appeal against the rate set by the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission in 2000. Australia's Minister for Communications, Richard Alston, said it is "unacceptable" that a dispute should be so lengthy, and has urged a resolution through mediation rather than legal action.
