Dramatic earnings drop splashes red paint over Wattyl.
Australasian Business Intelligence, September, 2001
Sep 13, 2001 (The Courier-Mail
ABIX via COMTEX) -- Troubled Australian paint-maker Wattyl reports a 2000-2001 after-tax net loss of $A22.4m. The result compares with a 1999-2000 profit of $A17.68m. The company says it was adversely affected by a number of write-downs related to its Asian and American businesses, poor past management decisions, margin pressures caused by higher raw material costs, and overdue reinvestment activities. The company says it has repositioned itself for stronger future results. Operational profits were $A1.5m. The company is now intent on exiting its Asian businesses.
