Tourism industry poised to crumble under triple blow.

ABIX via COMTEX) -- Australia's powerful tourism industry faces three simultaneous threats. One is the potential collapse of Ansett Airlines, which tourism experts say could by itself plunge the industry into a recession similar to that experienced during the 1989 pilots' strike. The company carried 800,000 passengers in August 2001, more than rivals Qantas Airways and Virgin Blue Airlines have the capability to take on. Queensland is particularly vulnerable, considering its reliance on regional air services. The second threat is posed by the terrorist attacks in the US, and the third by a potential backlash against Australia over its handling of the "Tampa" refugee crisis.
