Airlines cut to bone in scramble for survival.

ABIX via COMTEX) -- Regional air carriers are dropping services to Australia as part of their strategies to remain profitable. With the air travel market in a slump after terrorism incidents in September 2001, Malaysian Airline Systems (MAS), Japan Airlines, All Nippon Airways and United Airlines are reducing their routes. MAS has dropped 12 destinations, including flights to Europe, the US and Australasia. Japan Airlines intends to cut its trans-Pacific route capacity by 24. Internationally, the Swissair group is in trouble, posing a risk of collapse for Belgian carrier Sabena.
