Inquiry as phone giants snipe over slow switchovers.

ABIX via COMTEX) -- Claims of anti-competitive conduct in Australia's telecommunications industry will be investigated. Managements of the major telcos, Cable & Wireless Optus and Telstra Corporation, accuse each other of giving preferential service to their own customers who want to change mobile phone companies. Bob Horton, the Australian Communications Authority deputy chairman, said a changeover to a new carrier should be completed under three hours, but the average is four. Both major telcos welcomed the inquiry as a move to restore confidence in the industry.
