Safety in the heat of the night.

Australasian Business Intelligence, October, 2001

Oct 2, 2001 (The Australian

ABIX via COMTEX) -- Car manufacturers are developing infra-red technology to sense the bodyheat of pedestrians or animals at night. In 2001, they are fitting the windscreens of cars with night-vision cameras to sense warm beings or car exhausts and warn the driver. A message will flash on the windscreen or on a display screen near the driver. Honda and Toyota are fine-tuning these systems in Japan. The Australian truck manufacturer, Kenworth, has a similar system in operation in 2001. These systems could save many pedestrian lives and save the lives of kangaroos and other wild native animals in Australia. Many pedestrians and animals are killed at night.
