ABIX via COMTEX) -- Western Australian (WA) politician, Hendy Cowan, has been in State politics for 27 years. This is about to change, as the former WA leader of the National Party of Australia is resigning to stand for an Australian Senate seat. If he wins, he will be the first WA National to hold a Senate seat since 1978, and he will have to double the party's usual vote to have even a chance of winning. Four of the six Senate seats will go to Australian Labor Party (ALP) and Liberal Party of Australia candidates, leaving two seats to be decided between the minor parties and one more candidate from each of the major parties.
