Tourism's rollercoaster ride.

ABIX via COMTEX) -- Australia's $A60bn tourism industry is struggling to survive. Tourism, Australia's fourth largest earner of foreign exchange dollars, represents 11 of Australia's total export earnings. Whilst many attribute the industry's current woes to the 11 September 2001 terrorist attacks on the US and the collapse of the former Air New Zealand subsidiary, Ansett, a spokesman for Colliers Jardine Hotels & Leisure said much of the slump should simply be put down to global economic conditions. The industry has launched advertising campaigns, discount packages and new attractions in a bid to win back overseas travellers.
