O'Reilly prepares assault on Fairfax.

Australasian Business Intelligence, November, 2001

Oct 31, 2001 (Herald Sun

ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Irish media baron, Anthony O'Reilly, may be preparing for a bid for John Fairfax Holdings. The Fairfax share register is opening following the decision of Kerry Packer to sell his 14.9 stake in the publisher. Rumours are being fuelled by a corporate reorganisation of the O'Reilly interests, with a trading halt requested on APN News & Media (APN) stock. It is believed a planned capital raising exercise will assist O'Reilly's plan to combine his Australasian media interests. A possible APN merger with Wilson & Horton is suggested in a $A1.25 billion deal involving Independent News & Media.
