Wine's fine but beer is Lion's top drop.

Australasian Business Intelligence, November, 2001

ABIX via COMTEX) -- Lion Nathan plans to keep beer as its main business, despite its move into the wine sector. The company's chief executive, Gordon Cairns, said in November 2001 that beer would remain the biggest profit driver, although the wine operations would be expanded in Australia, the US and Europe over the next five years. Lion Nathan expects its beer business to deliver profit growth of more than 10 per cent over the coming year. It has written-off $A14 million of the value of 10 hotels it acquired in Victoria in 2000. Lion Nathan reported a net profit of $A151.8 million after tax for the 12 months to 30 September 2001.
