Telcos, airlines gain clout as competition withers.

ABIX via COMTEX) -- Competition is ebbing in Australia's aviation and telecommunications sectors. While significant competition in both areas recently brought low prices, lower revenues have proven unsustainable for weaker competitors such as Ansett Australia and One.Tel. This has left Qantas Airways and Telstra dominant once again, which is already leading to higher prices for end users. Telstra and its biggest rival, Singtel Optus, have just announced higher charges for ten million mobile telephone customers.
