Side effects of Ritalin could be long-term.

Australasian Business Intelligence, November, 2001

ABIX via COMTEX) -- US research indicates use of Ritalin, a drug used to control hyperactivity, could cause long-term changes in the brain. Research indicates there may be some effects of Ritalin use on brain cell function that go beyond its short-term use. Melbourne paediatrician, Sian Hughes, said after several weeks on Ritalin children often became irritable, symptoms that disappeared when use of the drug was discontinued. There is general agreement among doctors that Ritalin is not addictive if used correctly, but that more research is needed to determine both its positive and negative effects.
