Melbourne IT loses com.au operation to AusRegistry.
Australasian Business Intelligence, December, 2001
Dec 13, 2001 (The Sydney Morning Herald
ABIX via COMTEX) -- Australian Internet domain name registrar, Melbourne IT, will surrender its "com.au" registry business to AusRegistry. The newcomer was named the winning tenderer on 12 December 2001 to wholesale all Australian domains. As a result of AusRegistry's win, it is expected that domain name prices will drop. The privately-held company is planning to provide com.au domains to resellers for $A50, compared with the $A120 charged by Melbourne IT. AusRegistry is a subsidiary of RegistrarsAsia. AusRegistry's MD of sales, Adrian Kinders, said the company anticipates "good revenue potential" in the registry business, but added there are no plans to list on the sharemarket.
